Liberia

Known by the nickname ‘The Lone Stars’, Liberia will be making their fourth successive WAFU Nations Cup appearance.

They debuted in Nigeria 2010 and finished third in their group behind Ghana and Burkina Faso, in 2011 Liberia were beaten in the semifinals by eventual champions Togo, and in 2013 they finished bottom of their group.

This year Liberia will face Senegal in the opening knockout round and they will be looking to avenge a 2-0 loss they suffered at the hands of the Teranga Lions in the last WAFU tournament.

Listed 133rd on FIFA’s official ranking, the Lone Stars come into the 2017 WAFU Nations Cup on the back of a disappointing 2-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of Mauritania in the penultimate round of qualifying for the 2018 African Nations Championship.
