Guinea-Bissau

Known by the nickname ‘Djurtus’, Guinea-Bissau will be making their WAFU Nations Cup debut in Ghana 2017.

They were regular participants in the regional Amilcar Cabral Cup (a tournament which has effectively been replaced by the WAFU event) and even finished as runners-up in the 1983 edition.

Guinea-Bissau made their major tournament debut earlier this year when they appeared at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon, finishing bottom of their group.

Listed 92nd on FIFA’s world ranking, Djurtus will battle neighbours Guinea in the opening knockout round of the WAFU Nations Cup and look to avoid another embarrassment against the National Elephants, having suffered a 10-1 aggregate defeat at their hands in a recent 2018 African Nations Championship qualifying tie.
