Despite a lacklustre performance against Liberia in their opening match of the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations, Senegal coach Moustapha Seck says they are ready to pounce on any opponents.
The Teranga Lions were not at their best in front of goal on the opening day of the WAFU tournament, failing to find the back of the net against Liberia as their match ended goalless after 90 minutes.
It took a penalty shoot-out, which Senegal won 5-4, to decide the victors and who would progress into the group stages of the competition.
Speaking after the match, Seck admits they struggled against a well-organized Liberian side, but insists they are ready to beat any country in the WAFU tournament.
“Our main objective for this tournament was to get to the group phase and then move forward with that,” said Seck.
“It was not an easy match for us as Liberia were very resolute and determined. They played well.
“We are taking the games step-by-step and building a team with youth and exuberance.
“With a couple of good performances we can pounce at every team.”
