Nouhoum Diane: Mali were just much better than Mauritania

Following their 3-1 win over Mauritania in a Last 16 match at the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations on Monday, September 11, Mali coach Nouhoum Diane says they were just much better than their opponents on the day.
A goal from Mandala Konte and a brace from Moussa Kone in the final three minutes of the game was the difference.
Heading into the encounter at Cape Coasts Sports Stadium many thought Mali would be looking for revenge after losing 1-0 to Mauritanian three weeks ago in a CAF African Nations Championship qualifier in Bamako.
Diane, though, says that was not the case but rather Mali were just the superior team on the day.
“This was actually not a revenge match against Mauritania for what they did to us at the CHAN qualifiers in Bamako three weeks ago,” said the Mali coach.
“We were actually technically and tactically better on the field of play, and that was told in the result.
Looking ahead to the group stages, Diane admits the hard work is only starting now.
“Qualification to the group stage means nothing, its actually time for hard work and good preparations for the rest of the games,” conclude the Eagles coach.
