Togo

Known by the nickname ‘Sparrow Hawks’, Togo will be making their fifth appearance at the WAFU Nations Cup.

They were part of the eight-team field at the cancelled inaugural tournament in Ivory Coast, suffered early elimination in the 2010 finals, won the 2011 event after defeating hosts Nigeria 3-2 in the final, and finished third at the last tournament in Ghana back in 2013.

This year Togo will face Ivory Coast in the opening knockout round and look to advance into the group stage alongside the region’s heavyweights.

Listed 113th on FIFA’s official world rankings, the Sparrow Hawks’ locally-based side was last in action in July when they were beaten 8-7 on penalties (after a 2-2 aggregate draw) by Benin in their first round qualifying tie for the 2018 African Nations Championship.
